FCHS Scholar Athletes Named |
Congratulations to this year’s Scholar Athletes, who managed their classroom challenges along with the rigors of high level athletic competition. Over 250 Fox Chapel High School students earned the award during the 2011-2012 school year. To be eligible for this honor, students must have played a varsity sport and have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 during the first, second and third nine weeks. A comprehensive award list will be posted on the athletic department door later this week. Student athletes will receive their award in their QRT.

FCHS Girls' Cross Country Team Earn Top Honors |
Congratulations to the FCHS Cross Country Team for winning the 2011-2012 Team G.P.A Award for the second consecutive year! The players earned an impressive cumulative QPA of 3.8+ over the course of the school year. In honor of their achievement, they will be added to the team QPA banner located in the gymnasium. This is the fifth year for the award and past team recipients have included: Field Hockey (2007), Boys’ Cross Country(2008), Girls’ Swimming (2009), Girls’ Tennis (2010), and Girls’ Cross Country(2011). Fourteen other varsity teams achieved QPAs of 3.5 or better during this academic year.

Frank Fuhrer Named to WPIAL Hall of Fame |
Frank Fuhrer III has been named to the WPIAL Hall of Fame for his superb accomplishments in golf while a student-athlete at Fox Chapel Area High School. Frank won the WPIAL golf championship in 1974, 1975, and 1976, and led Fox Chapel to the golf team title in 1974 and 1976.
Mr. Fuhrer will be honored at the WPIAL Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet on June 1, 2012, in the grand ballroom of the Greentree Doubletree Hotel.
Family and friends interested in honoring Mr. Fuhrer may purchase tickets for the event at $40 per person, or $400 for a table of 10 people. Additional information is available by contacting the WPIAL office at 412-921-7181, or by email at

The WPIAL Hall of Fame was organized as a way to recognize, preserve and promote the heritage of interscholastic athletics in Western Pennsylvania. The Hall of Fame aims to honor the contributions and accomplishments of those selected as models for future generations.

Fox Chapel Boys Turning in Season to Remember |

The Fox Chapel High School boys track and field team had a chance to
clinch a playoff spot with victories over North Hills and Shaler this week.
The Foxes were in action last week against North Allegheny and Seneca
Valley in dual meet action and knocked off Seneca, 85-65, but fell to North
Allegheny, 90-60.
That spit improved the Foxes' record to 4-1 and set up the stage for the
playoff possibility.
"If we beat North Hills and Shaler next week, we go to the playoffs for the first time in a long time," FC coach
Tom Moul said. "I know we haven't gone since I've been coaching at FC."
The pivotal meet was scheduled for Wednesday. Results were not available at press time.
Meanwhile, the FC girls team lost to Seneca Valley, 87 1/3-62 2/3, and was defeated by NA, 119-31.
For the boys, Brandon Mitchell (high hurdles), Arjun Mukherjee (300 hurdles), Brian Papich (long jump, triple
jump), Tony Nguyen, javelin and the boys 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relay teams took first against North Allegheny.
Against Seneca, Ethan Martin (1,600 and 3,200) and Kenny Mauder (discus) also added firsts along with
Mitchell, Nguyen, Papich, Mukherjee and the relay teams..
First place finishers for the girls against North Allegheny were Tricia Panos (100), Meg Kirk (high jump) and Kat
Luttner (shot put and discus.)
Against SV, Panos (100, 200), Liz Schaffner (400), Luttner (shot put, discus) Claire Kintner (800), Kirk (high
jump) and Isabella Verardi (3200) all claimed first place.

This is the second in a series about individuals who will be inducted into the
Fox Chapel Area Sports Hall of Fame this year.
Dallas Roper made a name for himself on the track and cross country
teams at Fox Chapel Area.
The 1980 graduate set a home course cross country record in 1978 as a
sophomore.
In his junior year, he finished first in the Tri-State Cross Country Invitational
and Northern Cross Country Invitational.
He was also a WPIAL qualifier in cross country and finished fifth in the 800
at the PIAA track championships.
